In the course of my travels, I view these as my top ten sights that any traveler should check out. I am not looking at natural wonders such as the Grand Cannon or the Alps, but at magnificent structures that our ancestors constructed many years ago.
The first two are obvious. One may argue which one is the first, but these two definitely rank above all others our world has to offer.
#1 – Giza and the Pyramids
#2 – The Great Wall of China
The final group of beautiful places are in my opinion the final eight. Their order, however, is subject to personal preference.
#3 – The Taj Mahal
The Taj Mahal in Agra, India is beyond any doubt the most beautiful building the in the world. Photography does not do it justice. The marble carvings set the standard for which all else is compared.
#4 – Angkor Wat
Angkor Wat in Siem Reap, Cambodia is the largest religious structure in the world. It is a Buddhist Temple (Wat) that measures about 400 acres and was constructed in the 12th century.
These above two “buildings” are the definition of masterpieces. Their beauty, perhaps more than any other structures in the world, simply take your breath away.
#5 – Saint Peter’s, the Vatican & rome
#6 – Forbidden City of Beijing
#7 – Manikarnika Ghat on the Ganges in Varanasi, India
#8 – Western Wall and Jerusalem
Numbers 9 & 10 are definitely on my list, but I have not actually seen them. They are on my bucket list! (Not my photos)
#9 – Petra in Jordan
#10 – Machu Picchu of Peru
If I was forced to add two more sites, the possibilities are many. However, I do consider these as my next two favorites.
#11 – Terracotta Warriors of X’ian
#12 – Kinkaku-ji, the Golden Pavilion, and the Beauty of Kyoto
Feel free to comment, either in a positive or negative way. These choices are entirely personal, and all travelers have their own set of favorites.
